Alzheimers, Desperate Sleep, mpoems

Desperately tired – I can hardly move-

I’ve got to get going, get in the grove!

Meals to fix, errands to run-

None of that sounds like much fun!

My mate wakes me up – 2-3 times a night-

I can’t get back to sleep – try as I might.

I try to catch up during the day-

But he keeps asking me “are you OK?”

It’s not his fault he really can’t help it-

However one needs the sleep just to keep fit!

Please, Lord, let him sleep through this night-

I’m afraid I’ll get sick & that gives me a fright.

Changing the sheets is a lot of work-

Sometimes they make me feel like a real jerk!

Tugging & pulling off all those covers-

Just like all of the other Mothers!

Gather them up & off they go-

Into the washer – what a show!

The dryer buzzes – I love that sound?

Into the laundry room I do bound!

Back on the bed with a lot of pull & tug-

Don’t want to find any a bed bug!

On with the top sheet, blanket & duvet-

Looks pretty good even if I do say!

Now those pillow cases they number 6-

Three for me & my mate, I fix!

Fluff them all up – now doesn’t that look nice-

I wonder if a love story they will entice?

Secrets under bed covers are always kep-

What happens in the bed stays undercover – that’s only hep!

alheimers, poems, The Way Things Used To Be

I miss the way things used to be-

The fun, the events, the people we would see.

Trips to visit our children & grandchildren I miss-

Just to be with them & give them a big kiss!

The dinner parties at our dining room table-

The conversations the laughter when we were able!

The boating with friends to Key West we did take-

Exploring on our own, yes, mistakes we did make!

The New Years parties we always looked forward to-

Dressing up in style, for both me and you!

The fund raising, the volunteering were all part of our day-

We were truly involved & we made time to play!

Projects galore always kept  us  busy, busy-

Sometimes too much to do would make us dizzy!

Years have passed & it’s time to find a new path-

I hardly recognize our lives with this new assignment we hath!

A Prescription, alheimers, poems

It was a prescription & it kept his anger away-

But as time went on, his anger, stayed & stayed.

He complained & incessantly hounded all day-

Never happy at all – come what may.

He scratched his arms & made them bleed-

Like he was desperately trying to plant a seed!

He bit his fingers & all his nails too-

Fingers sometimes trimmed, but always in a stew!

He picked his teeth & rubbed his eyes-

He couldn’t sit still – no not very wise!

No longer prescribed & that’s just fine-

I’m not running to the drug store with scripts to sign!

He still has anger but smiles a bit-

I find him talking to the Lord while he sits.

Arms healing & fingers are not as much in his mouth-

But he still makes it known – he wants to go South!

Teeth now hold on to fillings- no they no longer come out–

Eyes not red & face in only sort of a pout.

Yes, it worked for a while, it accomplished it’s deed-

But I’m sure glad that he is no longer in its need!
