Alzheimers, Getting Through Christmas, poems

If I can just get through Christmas – said that 3 years in a row-

Things they are a changin’ more than he will ever know.

Gifts to be wrapped, cards to be sent-

My time is limited with him much time is spent.

We are told to turn down our holiday doing-

It’s hard to keep it simple without a’stewing!

I try to include him – much to no avail-

He tries to partake, but often leads to a fail.

He has little perception – he truly cannot see-

He used to delight in trimming the tree!

I’m selfish – Christmas is my favorite time of the year-

Being with our kids & grandkids, we do cheer!

Keeping in touch with old friends & new-

Our world is expanded if only for a month or two!

Baking cookies & candy & sending them off-

I don’t want to stop doing that nor will I scoff!

Celebrating our Lords Birthday on Christmas Eve-

Has been a family tradition, we thought we conceived!

Our Lord has blessed us was beyond measure-

Tone down Christmas?  Well – it is my pleasure!!!!!

Alzheimers, Misfits, poems

We are all misfits at one time or another-

Thinking we are only loved by our Mother!

“Rudolph the Red Nose Reindeer” we just watched-

Rudolph thinks his nose makes everything botched!

When he realizes he can’t run away from his trouble-

He finds out he doesn’t want to be someone elses double!

In helping others he forgets about his imagined fear-

In searching his heart & caring for those he holds dear.

He wants to be him just as he is-

Unique & carefully designed by our Lord – he is all His!

In finding that the Lord’s gift to him was just right-

He saved Christmas Eve as the star of the  night!

We too can find our Lord’s gift to us-

It just takes faith & prayer & trust!

No need to feel alone by not fitting in-

Ask our Lord what His gift is to you & you’ll always win!

(Pollyanna poem? – not really)

Alzheimers, poems, Shhh!

We hear about broken hips – surgeries abound-

Some reluctantly tell us that cancer has been found-

On some families – heart attacks have taken their hold-

Weakening of immune systems have also been told.

But mental diseases – only of these do we quietly speak-

It is still considered only of those who are weak.

This is not so – as some will eventually see-

Sometimes it comes from the family tree.

Dementia happens sometimes as we grow old-

To some it comes early – others are on hold.

But it may come- rare as that may seem-

We might as well learn about it, from info we gleam.

Learn & be aware of what you can do-

And don’t be aloof – it can happen to you.
